135kW Solar Electrification with Battery Storage of 45 BHCs and 135 Households Across 3 LGAs in Ondo State
SAO Energy
(Akoko North-East, Akure North, and Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo LGAs), Ondo State, Nigeria
SAO Energy was selected to participate in the 6th edition of the A2E CSR fund program of EDP, a global leader in energy transition. As a recipient of this fund for the advancing healthcare and sustainability project, SAO Energy partnered with EDP to address the critical issue of unreliable electricity in rural Nigeria.
This collaboration resulted in a significant solar energy project spanning three local government areas in Ondo State: Akoko North-East, Akure North, and Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo. Together, they successfully installed a 135kW solar power system that now provides clean, steady, and reliable energy to 45 health centers, while also connecting 135 households and small businesses.
Each of the 45 Basic Health Centers (BHCs) now operates entirely on solar power, enabling them to utilize essential medical equipment, such as centrifuges, for faster and more accurate diagnoses. Beyond healthcare, this initiative has brought stable electricity to homes and businesses in the community, strengthening primary healthcare delivery, stimulating economic activity, and promoting energy inclusion across the localities.
