According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Cassava is important, not only as a food crop but even more so as a major source of income for rural households. FAO also references Nigeria as the largest producer of Cassava in the whole world, with 64 million metric tons per annum. SAO Agro in a strategic public-private partnership with the Ondo State Government, is on a journey towards agricultural sustainability of cassava and infrastructural development of a cassava plantation.
The social impact of this strategic collaboration will be enormous across Nigeria as consumers will have access to healthier cassava products and farmers will benefit from access to an improved value chain and consumers - input companies, off-takers, and large-scale consumers. The plantation also serves as a tool for economic growth, empowerment in local communities, and export potential.
