This solar installation project involved SAO Energy partnering with Okra Solar, an Australian technology company that uses advanced digital monitoring, billing and mesh grids to make electrification more affordable to restore energy to Omolege Community in Ondo State; ending their 40+ years in darkness.
The objective of this pilot installation carried out in February 2022 was to re-energise households, primary health care centres, schools and religious establishments that have been without electricity supply for the past three years – with the Omolege community being the first beneficiary.
We successfully introduced an off-grid solar solution at the Omolege Primary Healthcare Centres (PHC) and supplied electricity to 100 adjacent households using a smart algorithm. 200 small house systems were successfully installed across Omolege - each system housing 50amp batteries, a 600-watt inverter, a panel of 200watts with a pod to serve as a charge controller and regulate the light, and a small house system (SHS). The installed solar photovoltaic array (PV) is designed to generate 900 Wp at peak sunlight.
The impact of this project cannot be understated as energised PHCs provide essential healthcare services to 10,000 rural residents.
